Classes
Diablo 5's first three classes are the returning Demon Hunter and Monk and the new Plague Knight, and Blizzard says the game will launch with more classes than any Diablo game has ever had.
Diablo 5 has three announced classes, the Demon Hunter and the Monk from Diablo III and the new Plague Knight, all revealed at BlizzCon 2026, and Blizzard says it will launch with more classes than any Diablo game has ever had. The player character is always the Heir to Westmarch, but "class identity in Diablo is fundamental", senior game director Joe Shely told the Forging the Next Era panel: a Demon Hunter standing at the campfire with "their scarf, their twin crossbows" is "part of who you're choosing to be". Blizzard calls the three "only the first of the classes we'll reveal on the road to Diablo V" (Blizzard).

Demon Hunter
The Demon Hunter was the first class announced, to cheers, and "Joe's favorite class", the host said. It is "so agile, leaping through the air, pinning demons against the walls"; in Blizzard's description it stalks the forces of Hell "with twin crossbows, striking from the shadows and leaping across the battlefield".
Monk
The Monk returns too. "You'll be able to once again pulpify demons with your fists", Joe Shely said, "and if there are any that are out of range, call down Holy Light to smite them." Blizzard says the Monk "brings martial perfection back to Sanctuary".
Plague Knight
The Plague Knight is the first new class: "a heavily armored class", "walking death", which roams the battlefield "spreading disease and then consuming it for power". "Sounds unsanitary," the host replied. Blizzard calls it "the embodiment of walking death".
More classes than ever
Joe Shely said Diablo 5 will "launch with more classes than ever before", and made the claim as strong as it goes: "I don't just mean more classes than another Diablo game at ship. I mean more classes total." Diablo classes, he added, are approachable, "but there's also deep ARPG mastery there and a multitude of builds to explore".
Senior production director Tiffany Wat told IGN that Joe "underplayed it a little bit": "we are bringing more classes than ever that you've seen in a Diablo game." DayOne's group interview reported the team's reasons: so that a player coming from any earlier Diablo game finds something familiar, and with classes ranging from the dark, like the Plague Knight, to the light, like the Monk.
Frequently asked questions
What classes are in Diablo 5? Three have been announced, at BlizzCon on Sep 12, 2026: the Demon Hunter, a crossbow-wielding acrobat, and the Monk, a martial artist who calls down Holy Light, both back from Diablo III, and the Plague Knight, a new heavily armored class that spreads disease and consumes it for power.
How many classes will Diablo 5 have? Blizzard has not given a number. Senior game director Joe Shely said it will launch with "more classes total" than any Diablo game has had, not just more than another Diablo had at release, and the first three are "only the first" to be revealed before launch in Spring 2029.
Is the Necromancer or the Barbarian in Diablo 5? Neither has been announced as of Oct 31, 2026. Blizzard has revealed only the Demon Hunter, the Monk and the Plague Knight and says more classes will be revealed on the road to launch.
Is the Amazon in Diablo 5? Not announced as of Oct 31, 2026. The Amazon Blizzard revealed at BlizzCon 2026 is a class for Diablo 4, coming in the first half of 2027.
When will more Diablo 5 classes be revealed? Blizzard has given no date. It says only that it plans to share regular updates "starting in 2027", ahead of launch in Spring 2029.
Is the Plague Knight a new class? Yes. It is the first class new to Diablo in Diablo 5, which Blizzard calls "the embodiment of walking death".
Can you choose who you play in Diablo 5? You choose a class, but every player is the Heir to Westmarch in the story; see Story and Setting.
